When is the BC municipal election?
Municipal elections in B.C. are held on Saturday, October 17, 2026. They are a separate vote from the 2026 provincial election, and each local government sets its own voting places and some of its rules, so check your municipality's website for details.
Who is on a municipal ballot?
Depending on where you live, your ballot can include a mayor, city or town councillors (elected at large or by ward), school board trustees, and regional district or other local roles.
How to find the candidates in your city
Open Choseno's elections and races directory and choose your city, or enter your address in the find your district tool to see only the races on your ballot. Each race page lists the candidates, their party or slate where they have one, and, for many B.C. municipalities, the advance and election-day voting places.
Independent candidates
Many B.C. municipal candidates run as independents or with local slates rather than provincial parties, so a candidate's name and statement matter more than a party label. Read each statement and compare candidates on the same questions.
What local roles decide
Councils decide on local bylaws, zoning, property taxes and municipal services. School trustees oversee the school district budget and policy. Our guide on what a city ward is explains how ward representation works.
Official information
