The provincial government approves standardized pre-fabricated modular housing blueprints to cut construction timelines by 50%.
SURREY, B.C. — Premier David Eby announced that B.C. has approved a catalog of pre-reviewed mass timber building designs to accelerate middle-income housing construction across Surrey, Burnaby, and Vancouver.
Municipalities adopting the standardized plans can issue building permits within weeks rather than months.
"We are modernizing construction so young families can find attainable homes built with high-quality B.C. timber," Eby said during a site visit in Surrey.
The initiative supports domestic forestry manufacturing while directly addressing urban rental shortages.
