Premier David Eby visits emergency response command centres in Penticton and announces direct financial support for wildfire evacuees.
PENTICTON, B.C. — Premier David Eby met with emergency crews and displaced families in the Okanagan to announce a $20-million provincial emergency relief fund providing direct stipends to households under evacuation orders.
The funds will be disbursed through Emergency Management and Climate Readiness portals within 24 hours of verified displacement.
"No family should have to stress about paying for groceries or emergency hotel stays while firefighters protect their communities," Eby stated.
B.C. Wildfire Service confirmed that 150 structural protection personnel from Australia and New Zealand have integrated into front-line operations.
