Alberta outlines deregulated electricity incentives to attract global tech firms seeking reliable natural gas baseload power for data centres.
EDMONTON, Alta. — Premier Danielle Smith highlighted Alberta's competitive electricity framework as a key advantage for international tech companies building high-power artificial intelligence computing facilities.
"Artificial intelligence requires continuous, reliable energy that cannot depend solely on weather-dependent sources," Smith said in Edmonton. "Alberta has the natural gas reserves and regulatory flexibility to lead North America in digital infrastructure."
The province is drafting expedited approval pathways for data developers building dedicated on-site power generation facilities.
